Pianist Yukiko Akagi is enjoying a blossoming career as recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician. Based in New York City, she has performed in throughout the U.S., France, Spain and her native Japan.
Following her critically acclaimed New York recital debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in October, 2004, Ms.Akagi was 1st Prize Winner at the Jose Roca International Piano Competition, 2nd Prize Winner at both the Maria Canals International Piano Competition and the Guerrero International Piano Competition.
In fall 2002, she made her New York debut as concerto soloist performing Ravel’s G major Piano Concerto at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall as Grand Prize Winner of the Mannes College Concerto Competition.
Among other honors, Ms. Akagi has been prize winner at the Dorothy Mackenzie Competition, the 16th Luis A. Ferre Competition, Frinna Awerbuch International Competition and the National Piano Teachers Association of Japan Competition as well as receiving a 2002 Artist Grant from the New York Foundation for the Arts.
Highlights of Ms. Akagi’s 2006-07 season, she has been heard as a recitalist throughout Spain, Japan and U.S., including presenting many world-premier works. As a Concerto Soloist, She recently performed Grieg Piano Concerto with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Salvador Brotons and was described by The Colombian as a pianist with”…it is perhaps too easy to say that pianist Yukiko Akagi took everyone’s breath away with her superb playing”.
In Spain, she has appeared in Barcelona’s Palau de la Musica with the Sinfonica del Valles orchestra, and at Madrid’s Teatro Monumental with the Spanish Radio Television Orchestra. In addition, her performances have been broadcast on New York’s WQXR, Cleveland’s WCLV, Portland’s KBPS and Spanish National Television.
Ms. Akagi earned her Bachelor of Music degree at Toho Conservatory in Tokyo studying with Nobuko Amada, her Master of Music Degree at Mannes College of Music studying with Jerome Rose, and her Professional Studies Certificate at Manhattan School of Music studying with Solomon Mikowsky.
